The main raw materials of C1S/C2S Art Paper are coated paper and coating. It has uniform thickness, small elasticity, high strength and good water resistance. The paper surface is not allowed to have spots, wrinkles, holes and other paper defects. The coating used for coating is composed of high-quality white pigments, adhesives and auxiliary additives. This coating with high fluidity and high solid content is applied thinly and evenly on the base paper through a coating machine, then dried, rolled into a roll on a paper reel, and then sent to a super calender for calendering and finishing, and finally cut, selected and packaged.
C1S/C2S art paper is widely used in our real life. The beautiful calendars, posters sold in bookstores, book covers, illustrations, art books, picture albums, etc. that you see are almost all made of coated paper. Various exquisitely decorated packaging, paper handbags, labels, trademarks, etc. also use a lot of coated paper.
How Does C2S Art Paper Work?
C2S Art Paper, or Coated Two Sides Art Paper, functions through a special coating process that enhances the surface properties of base paper. The key working principle lies in the application of a fine coating layer—typically made of calcium carbonate, kaolin clay, and binding agents—on both sides of the paper.
Here's how it works:
Base Paper Preparation:
Uncoated paper (usually woodfree paper) serves as the base.
Double Coating Process:
A smooth coating slurry is applied to both sides of the paper. This coating fills in the surface irregularities, creating a uniform, non-porous, and glossy finish.
Calendering:
After coating, the paper passes through heated rollers (calenders) to compress and polish the surface. This step ensures high smoothness and gloss.
Printing Behavior:
Because of its smooth and sealed surface, printing inks remain on the surface rather than being absorbed into the fibers. This allows for:
High-resolution image printing
Vibrant and accurate color reproduction
Sharper text and graphic detail
Drying & Finishing:
Once printed, the ink dries through oxidation or UV curing, as absorption is minimal. This results in a clean, crisp printed appearance.
