Carbonless paper is coated with two different types of chemicals: CF or also known as front coating, and CB or back coating. The chemicals are held in tiny capsules that are released when the capsules rupture due to pressure from a pen or printer.
When CF and CB chemicals interact, the CF chemicals darken, causing the image to appear on the CF side of the paper. One obvious way to tell the difference between CF and CB chemicals is that the image only appears on the front side of the paper, so there is no image on the back of any paper. Because this paper produces images without copying, it is called "carbonless paper."
The upper and lower papers do not have a carbon copy effect, only the middle paper has a carbon copy effect. When using documents printed on carbonless paper, a small piece of cardboard is usually placed on the form to prevent the other forms underneath from being copied due to excessive writing force.
Carbonless paper is generally divided into four colors: white/red/blue/green, which serve to distinguish the forms.
Carbonless paper is clear, durable, and rewritable, making it widely used in offices, commerce, education and other fields. It can be used as invoices, bills, bank statements, business lists, receipt rolls and ATM transaction records. Additionally, carbonless paper can be used to create quality control forms, store records, and various reports.
Carbonless copy paper is mostly used for documents. Existing formal documents with legal effect such as invoices, contracts, and treaties have all been printed on carbonless copy paper. Traditional documents are just ordinary paper, so a carbon copy layer must be added under the document. Carbonless copy paper is bound with special paper.
