Features of Carbonless Paper/NCR Paper

Carbonless paper is treated with two distinct types of chemicals: CF, or front coating, and CB, or back coating. These chemicals are contained in small capsules that break open when pressure is applied by a pen or printer.

When the CF and CB chemicals come into contact, the CF chemicals darken, resulting in an image appearing on the front side of the paper. A clear indication of the difference between CF and CB chemicals is that the image is only visible on the front, leaving the back side blank. This unique feature allows the paper to create images without the need for carbon, hence the name "carbonless paper."
