Cupstock base paper is a premium, uncoated paperboard specifically engineered for the production of PE-coated packaging applications. It is manufactured from 100% virgin wood fibers, ensuring a clean, strong, and highly consistent substrate.
Its key properties include excellent intrinsic stiffness and superior surface smoothness, both of which are critical for stable converting performance during cup forming processes and subsequent extrusion coating. These characteristics help ensure efficient processing, reliable runnability, and high-quality final cup performance.
As the essential base material for finished cupstock, it is widely used in the production of hot and cold beverage cups (such as coffee, tea, and soft drinks) as well as various food containers. Its structural strength and purity are critical for achieving reliable sealing, shape stability, and leak resistance in the final product.
China Paper supplies a reliable range of cupstock base papers with controlled porosity and specific grammages (e.g., 150-320gsm), offering a dependable foundation for high-quality, leak-proof finished packaging.

PE-coated paperboard is primarily produced using cupstock base paper as its core substrate. This high-quality base material is specifically engineered for converting into a wide range of single-use food and beverage containers, providing the necessary strength, stability, and surface performance required for effective PE coating and reliable end-use applications.
As the primary material for disposable cup production, cupstock base paper delivers essential stiffness and structural strength for stable forming and use. Its well-controlled porosity ensures strong adhesion of the PE coating, forming a durable and reliable liquid barrier. This makes it ideal for a wide range of applications, including coffee cups, tea cups, soft drink cups, and milkshake cups.
This paper is designed to meet the performance requirements of food packaging that demands effective grease and moisture resistance. It provides a strong and stable base for coating applications, making it suitable for products such as soup bowls, noodle boxes, salad containers, and French fry cups. It maintains excellent structural integrity even when in contact with hot or oily foods.
In response to the growing demand for eco-friendly packaging solutions, this base paper is increasingly used as a substrate for PLA and water-based barrier coatings. It is also suitable for higher-grammage applications that require enhanced rigidity, including large-size meal boxes and bucket-style packaging, where superior strength and structural performance are essential.

Cupstock base paper is a high-quality, uncoated paperboard specifically engineered as the primary raw material for producing PE-coated cupstock.
In paper cup machines, cupstock is fed from large rolls. The machine performs several automated steps:
Printing (if not pre-printed): The blank cupstock is printed with designs.
Die-cutting: It is cut into precise fan-shaped "cup blanks."
Forming: The blank is rolled into a cylinder.
Side Sealing: The seam is heated and pressed to seal the PE layers together.
Bottom Sealing: A pre-cut bottom disc is attached by melting the PE coating to create a leak-proof seal.
Rim Curling: The top rim is rolled for strength and comfort.
The entire process relies on the consistent quality, stiffness, and heat-seal performance of the cupstock.
Cupstock paper (both base paper and the final coated product) is primarily made from 100% virgin wood fibers, sourced from responsibly managed forests. Using virgin fibers is crucial for ensuring hygiene, food safety, strength, and consistency.
